The world is confused …

  • What is I.T.?
  • What is I.S.?
  • What is the difference between a web-designer and a web-developer?
  • What is Flashy? (?-Pizzaz-?)
  • What is Standard?

I.T. stands for Information Technology …
If you know how to use Excel, this does not qualify you as an I.T. specialist. Excel is for the “every-man” …
An I.T. specialist can troubleshoot challenges with your network, configure an email system … and much more …
(on the other hand there may be someone better at asking an Excel question)

I.S. stands for Information Science (and maybe a few others) …
This may be the better place/person(s) to ask an Excel question. Information Science(s)/Service(s) handle information as the name would and should imply. What’s the difference from Information Technology? It’s actually simpler than you might think … if you in fact even need to ask.

I.T. maintains and services the systems that process the information. This would include hardware setup and software configuration. I.S. now gets to use those systems to create solutions for the everyday man or woman.
